Terms of Use

Last updated: 8 October 2026

These terms govern your use of Codecell, a code editor, tracer and runner published by Lodyworks ("we"), on iPhone and iPad from the App Store and on Android from Google Play. Installing or using Codecell means you accept them. If you got Codecell from the App Store, they supplement Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, which also applies; if you got it from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply.

What the app does

Codecell lets you write Python and JavaScript (and, on Android, TypeScript), run it, record a run step by step and inspect the variables it produced. Python runs on an interpreter built into the app and JavaScript runs on the engine the operating system provides, so both work without a network connection. If you choose a different language version in Settings, that run is sent to a third-party execution service over the internet instead; see Execution engines.

Runs and daily credits

Running a script, entering code in the REPL and tracing a run are free and have no daily limit. Free traces record up to 200 steps.

Some features use credits: the formatter, scanning code from an image, the syntax tree, sharing a script as a file, saving to files, sharing a snapshot without a watermark and asking the assistant. Each use costs one credit. Free use includes a daily number of credits that resets every day at 00:00 UTC. Free users may earn additional credits by watching rewarded advertisements, up to a daily cap. Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred, purchased separately, or refunded, and unused credits do not carry over to the next day. Premium removes the need for credits entirely.

Premium

Premium is offered as:

The price in your currency is shown in the app before you buy.

All purchases are handled by Apple or Google. Refunds are at their discretion under their policies; we cannot issue them directly.

Advertising

Advertisements are optional and rewarded only. If you decline to watch them, running code remains free and unlimited, and the credit features remain available within your free daily allowance. Attempting to manipulate the reward system — for example by tampering with the app, spoofing ad completion, or automating ad views — is a breach of these terms and may result in loss of access to the reward feature.

The assistant

On devices that support it, Codecell's assistant uses the device's own on-device model — Apple Foundation Models on iOS, Gemini Nano on Android — to explain and suggest changes to your code. Its answers can be wrong. Nothing it suggests is applied until you choose to apply it, and you are responsible for reviewing what you apply and run.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Codecell to:

Your content

You own the code you write. We claim no rights over it. It is stored on your device; we do not hold a copy on our servers and have no way to recover it. Deleting the app, resetting the device, an operating-system fault or a failed restore will lose anything you have not backed up yourself, and we are not liable for loss of code or of any other data.

Execution engines

By default Codecell runs Python on CPython, which is built into the app, and JavaScript on Apple's JavaScriptCore (iOS) or the system WebView (Android). If you select another language version in Settings, runs with that version are executed by a third-party service (currently Wandbox) over an encrypted connection. Do not send confidential, proprietary or personally identifying material to it.

These engines are independent open-source, platform or third-party software that we distribute or call, not software we wrote, and their behaviour, correctness, performance, security and continued existence are outside our control. Accordingly, and to the maximum extent permitted by law: we do not warrant that any engine will be available, will remain available, will produce correct results, or will support any particular language version, library or feature. We may add, replace, downgrade or withdraw any engine or language version at any time, including because a third-party service changes its terms, restricts access, introduces charges or shuts down. Such a change is not a defect in the app and does not on its own entitle you to a refund from us.

Not for production or critical use

Codecell is a tool for writing, learning and experimenting with code. It is not a certified build environment and must not be relied on for safety-critical, medical, financial, legal or other high-risk purposes. Output produced by any interpreter, tracer or the assistant may be incorrect, incomplete or misleading, and you are responsible for independently verifying anything you rely on.

Availability and change

We aim to keep Codecell functional but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may change, suspend or discontinue any feature, and we are not liable for delay or failure caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including network failures, acts of a third-party provider, changes in platform or store policy, and events ordinarily treated as force majeure.

Disclaimer and liability

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, business interruption, or the cost of substitute services, however caused and on any theory of liability, even if we have been advised of the possibility. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Codecell is limited to the amount you actually paid for it in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and any mandatory rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country of residence. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

Termination

You may stop using Codecell at any time by deleting it. We may suspend access to specific features if you breach these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence.
