Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 October 2026

This policy explains what Codecell collects, why, and who else is involved. It covers Codecell for iPhone and iPad from the App Store and Codecell for Android from Google Play. In this policy, "we" means Lodyworks, the developer of the app.

The short version

Your code

The scripts you write are saved in the app's own storage on your device. We have no server that stores your code, and no way to browse it.

By default Python runs on a CPython interpreter built into the app. JavaScript runs on Apple's JavaScriptCore on iPhone and iPad, and on the system WebView's engine on Android, which also runs TypeScript. So pressing Run, Trace or using the REPL transmits nothing. The same applies when a script is run from Shortcuts on iOS or from an App Action on Android.

If you choose a different language version in Settings, runs with that version send the contents of the editor to a third-party execution service (currently Wandbox) over an encrypted connection, and the app shows the output it returns. That service operates under its own privacy policy. Do not send confidential, proprietary or personally identifying material to it.

The assistant

On iPhone and iPad with Apple Intelligence, the assistant runs on Apple's on-device Foundation Models. On Android devices that support it, it runs on Gemini Nano through Google's ML Kit and Android AICore, which also executes on the device. Your questions, the script it reads and the output of any run it performs are processed on your device and are not sent to us or to any AI provider.

Analytics and crash reports

We use Google Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Remote Config. These collect events such as "a run was started", "the paywall was viewed" or "the app crashed", along with a randomly generated installation identifier, your device model, operating system version, language and coarse region. We use this to see which features matter, where people get stuck, which crashes to fix first, and to adjust settings such as the free daily allowance without shipping an update.

These reports do not contain your source code, the output of your programs, what you ask the assistant, or any contact details.

Advertising

Codecell shows rewarded video advertisements only, and only when you choose to watch one to earn extra daily credits. There are no banners, no interstitials and no ads shown to Premium users.

Ads are delivered by Google AdMob. To serve and measure them, AdMob may process your device's advertising identifier, IP address, coarse location derived from that address, and interaction with the ad. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app presents a Google-certified consent form before any ad is requested; you can re-open it later from Settings. On iPhone and iPad, personalised advertising also requires your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt — declining it means you see non-personalised ads, and everything else in the app continues to work exactly the same. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in the system settings under Google ▸ Ads.

Google's handling of this data is described in Google's Privacy Policy.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the one-time purchase are processed by Apple through the App Store on iPhone and iPad, and by Google Play on Android. We never see or receive your payment details. On iOS we use RevenueCat to check whether a purchase is currently valid; RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier and the App Store transaction data needed to validate it. On Android the app asks Google Play Billing on the device.

Camera and photos

Scanning code from a photo or the camera uses on-device text recognition — Apple's Vision framework on iOS, Google's ML Kit on Android. Images are processed locally and are not uploaded. On Android the camera permission is requested only when you choose to scan; on iOS the app asks to add to your photo library only when you save a code snapshot.

Children

Codecell is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Because we do not hold an account for you, the data we can associate with you is limited to anonymous analytics identifiers. Deleting the app resets them. Depending on where you live, you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and objection under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA or similar laws; to exercise them, email us. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

Data retention

Firebase Analytics event data is retained for 14 months and then deleted automatically. Crashlytics reports are retained for 90 days. Code sent to a third-party execution service is retained according to that service's own policy; we do not receive or keep a copy.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, note it in the app's release notes.
